FADE IN:
EXT. ROADS - AFTERNOON
It’s a typical sunny day in Starlite City, a variety of honks of cars can be heard all over, with a major traffic jam formed by cars slowing down, windows down, trying to catch a glimpse of a horrific crash of a red sedan
Red plastic cones on the road near the red sedan serves as a ‘no entry’ zone. Two Malay Police rookies are standing outside the ‘no entry’ zone and angrily ushering cars that are slowing down to move
The siren of an ambulance rushing to the scene can be heard in the background as STARLITE MEDICAL CENTRE was not far away. Upon hearing the siren the two rookies starts getting aggressive with the cars that are slowing down
POLICE #1
MOVE IT!!
POLICE #2
(showing a ticket book)
Move or you will get one!!
The threats get through and the traffic finally moves on a slightly better pace.
At the scene of the accident, three policemen are investigating the car, the Indian Sergeant is around the bonnet, and two other Malay rookies, one at the boot completing a report and another snapping pictures of the crash
Reporters, cameramen and photographers are all over the scene
The bonnet of the car is flattened like a pan cake. The girl inside the car in a black baby T and khakis, is already dead, with the steering wheel crushed into her chest. Cuts on her face from the shattered wind screen glass leaves her covered in blood and she is barely identifiable
The Sergeant investigating the car retrieves the victim’s handbag, searching through it and pulling out a white purse to retrieve the identification card
SERGEANT
(looking at the I.D.)
Layla..
Back at the car
The picture snapping continues. While searching through the back seat of the car, the rookie finds an IPOD lying on the carpet. Suspiciously, he looks around at his colleagues and when the coast is clear he puts the Ipod in his pocket. He continues snapping thereafter
The Sergeant on the front part of the car takes a look at Layla
SERGEANT
(long pause)
How do you crash like that??
The rookie with the camera responds
POLICE #3
Suicide??
The rookie with the report at the boot of the car responded to the other rookie
POLICE #4
I think you are right, stupid bitch
intended to die..
The three of them laugh
Moments later, The Scientist, by Coldplay starts playing. The Sergeant ignores the call, leaves the handbag on the roof of the car and walk towards the roundabout near the scene
The ambulance finally beats the traffic and arrives at the scene. The two Chinese female paramedics come rushing out with a stretcher. The Sergeant already on his way to the ambulance, halts the paramedics’ advances
SERGEANT
Forget the stretcher..we can’t
move the body..
Both the paramedics leave the stretcher on the road and take a seat on the mini stairs at the rear end of the ambulance
PARAMEDIC #1
Where’s the fire department??
SERGEANT
(funny face)
LATE......as usual..
INT. STARLITE MEDICAL CENTER - LATER
The SCENE opens on the emergency room hall of a hospital. Chaotic as usual, as nurses walking by everywhere, some even RUNNING, DOCTORS TREATING patients behind almost every curtain, disturbing NOISES from children YELLING in pain, injured patients yelling in agony
From the main door of the, a very concern couple in their fifties of formal dressing walks in and went straight to reception counter
The male in matching color suit, VINCENT, Chinese, balding with a beer belly and the female in a casual wear is AMY, Chinese with permed hair
VINCENT
I got a call regarding my daughter
Layla Wong
The young FEMALE INDIAN RECEPTIONIST hardly acknowledge Vincent
RECEPTIONIST
Please take a seat sir..
The Indian receptionist type something onto the COMPUTER present in front of her, she then picks up the PHONE and press a number
Amy clearly very restless
AMY
(annoyed)
Is she OKAY??
RECEPTIONIST
(rudely)
PLEASE take a seat (to the phone)
Dr. Buvein the Wongs are here..
(pause) okay..
Amy ready to give the receptionist a piece of her mind was dragged away from the counter by Vincent
VINCENT
Sit down..
As Amy sits on the long bench just in front of the counter, she starts crying
VINCENT(CONT’D)
(consoling)
Don’t worry..
As the consoling and crying continues, from the MAIN DOOR, an Indian doctor with a lab coat enters the emergency room and straight to the reception counter. He is BUVEIN, 22, good looking and tall
The receptionist directs him to the Wongs on the bench, he takes quick glance at the crying couple, clearly very sympathetic, he walks towards them
BUVEIN
Hi, I’m Dr. Buvein
His greeting catches the attention of Vincent and Amy, both looking at him in a very hopeful manner
VINCENT
Is Layla okay??
Caught in a very awkward situation and very clearly in a situation any doctor don’t want to be in. Buvein then composes himself and seats next to Vincent and puts his right hand on Vincent’s shoulder
BUVEIN
(sympathetic)
There won’t be a nicer way to say
this..so I’ll get straight to the point..
you two have to follow me to the
morgue..
The distressing news left Amy in a worse situation as she was before and this time crying even louder
Vincent fall back to his seat with tears flowing rapidly
BUVEIN
(softly)
I am sorry..
EXT. AFTERNOON - LATER
A black Sony Ericsson K750i on a table starts RINGING by playing the song Lips on an Angel, by Hinder while bearing the name ‘Mr. Vincent’. A male right hand reaches for the phone
